Deira Central is a mixed-use development on Al Muraqqabat Road in Deira, Dubai, an active, culturally rich, historical district of the city. The project proposes a variety of uses, with residences, a hotel, serviced apartments, office space, and retail. The master plan is meant to stimulate further activity in the already vibrant area. Volumes are selectively removed to create voids that create connections with the streets, introduce natural light into the interiors, and reduce the architecture’s physical presence. This produces public pockets on the exterior that feature vegetation, alongside activity from the restaurants and shops that spill out from the interior. The massing steps back on upper levels to create private patios and a series of communal gardens for residents and exterior spaces for office workers.
