waiwai is developing a plan for the preservation and reuse of Mina Zayed, the port of Abu Dhabi.
The plan introduces shaded pedestrian paths, parks, and courtyards, with the large, column-free interiors of the warehouses offering flexible spaces for offices, galleries, and workshops and windows creating a link with the outside.
The project transforms the industrial storage and logistics zone of the port into a livable district configured to a human scale.
The design amplifies the important role that Mina Zayed plays in the cultural and economic life of Abu Dhabi and accentuates the possibilities that the space has for a new form of urban vitality. It imagines a future of flexible environments in which each space has multiple uses.
